Come join Queer Calgary for a fun evening of board games, laughter and fun! We welcome anyone to attend, whether youβre a newcomer to gaming or an experienced board game enthusiast.
This event is happening at The Sentry Box. Please note that The Sentry Box is made up of two separate business entities. To access the building, please enter through the west entrance into the Sentry Box, not The Sentry Box Cards. Weβll be on the upper mezzanine, and signs will be placed on the tables to indicate our tables.
Please be aware that this event is not wheelchair accessible due to the approximately 9 stairs into the building.
However, please remember that these events are meant to be a safe space for the Queer community. Transphobia, homophobia, and discrimination of any kind are not welcome. Being a safe space also includes being respectful of photography. Before taking any pictures including people, please always ask for permission.
You can RSVP on Meetup here! Please note you are not required to sign up to attend, all of our ongoing programs are always open to walk ins!

Open Hearts is for all trans, non-binary and gender diverse individuals. As well as those looking to affirm, to explore, or are questioning a trans or gender-diverse identity. Open Hearts focuses on building community and connections.
As distinct from some of the other groups, this is an open format group that is casual and informal in nature. It is about creating space for individuals to share and just be themselves.
This event will be held in the room near the entrance of the building. Look for the Skipping Stone sign!

Our theme for September is "The Murderbot Diaries" by Martha Wells! This series of adult sci-fi novellas is named for the main character, Murderbot: an independent aroace android, defying societal expectations as it explores its sense of self (and maybe makes some friends along the way).
After reading the first novella "All Systems Red" in Book Club last year, we wanted an opportunity to revisit it. Whether you read one of the novellas or the entire series, listen to the audiobook, or just watch the TV show, we'll use this meeting to have a broad conversation about Murderbot and our interpretations of the story! Even if you're unfamiliar with it, youβre still welcome to attend - just be aware that you might hear some spoilers.
Please RSVP here: https://www.abacesandaros.ca/event-details-registration/book-club-24
We will email you the online meeting link an hour before Book Club starts, so that it's at the top of your inbox.
Everyone is welcome to join us, whether youβre a-spec yourself, or interested in reading books with a-spec characters/themes. This is a "no obligations Book Club" and you are always welcome, whether you read the book or not. We usually hold meetings every month, depending on the book chosen and its availability at libraries across Alberta. Feel free to bring suggestions for what we should read next!
Let us know if you have any questions (email: info@abacesandaros.ca).
Wondering what else our Book Club has read? Check out this list of past books!
