Queer Book Swap & Social - Gay Book Cult, Queereads YYC, and Violet's Book Club

05/24/2026, 3:00 PM

Location: Congress Coffee Company, 215 36 Ave NE #1A, Calgary, AB T2E 2L4, Canada

Gay Book Cult, Queereads YYC, and Violet's Book Club are thrilled to team up again to bring you another Calgary queer book swap and social hang hosted at Congress Coffee Company on Sunday, May 24th from 3 pm - 5 pm. EVENT IS SOLD OUT How it works: Bring a 2SLGBTQIA book of your choice to the event. You will not get this book back. You can write your contact info inside the cover if you wish so you can talk about the plot. Place your book in the designated swap area upon arrival. Mingle and socialize, grab a drink or snack, browse the books. Once we announce that it’s time to choose, you may choose your new book to take home with you! The building is semi-accessible. There are two small steps to the front door, but they do have a portable ramp that can be made available for wheelchair users. They have two gender neutral bathrooms (not built to wheelchair accessible standards). There are no bright flashing lights and the music will be at a reasonable volume. Masking is strongly preferable, but be aware that this is an open event and the venue will not be closed to just our guests, so there will likely be patrons not masking at the location. There will be seating, though it may be limited so get there early if you require seating! To get to Congress: There is quick access from Centre Street North and Edmonton Trail with ample after-hours free street and lot parking. Bus stops near the cafe include routes 2, 3, 5, 38, and MG.  To participate, all you need to bring is a 2SLGBTQIA+ book of your choosing. If this is a barrier for you, you are welcome to attend to enjoy the social aspect, but unless there are extra books left at the end, please don't take a book home from the swap unless you contributed one!
